This $2.5 billion project was Australia's largest road infrastructure project. It set a new benchmark in safety and environmental management, and was delivered six months ahead of schedule with limited disruption to surrounding communities and stakeholders.

With more than 14 million man hours completed in joint venture with Thiess, John Holland delivered the movement of over seven million cubic metres of earth, the placement of more than 1.3 million tonnes of asphalt, the construction of 88 bridges, 45 kilometres of new free-way, twin 1.6 kilometre tunnels, 17 interchanges and over 35 kilometres of continuous bicycle and pedestrian paths.

Also involved was the construction of two major bypasses - the Ringwood Bypass and the Dandenong Southern Bypass - which eliminated 45 sets of traffic lights and reduced traffic congestion on local roads in the Melbourne metro region. This project delivered a world-class motorway that redefined what was possible in road construction, setting new standards in turnover, design, construction and sustainability.
